Craft Room Envy :: Savitri Wilder

Cuttlebug Tips via Videos

If you've read just a little bit of this blog, then you should know that I'm a big fan of the Cuttlebug. I've seen the new one, but I have no interest in it since the old, original one is a fine and sturdy specimen.

I think I've only purchased one new folder in the past year. But you can chalk that up to the fact that I'm not currently living in the U.S. Actually, I have three new folders if I include the two from Tim Holtz. Again, the classic early Cuttlebug folders go a long way. Some of the new Cuttlebug folders are too 'scrapbooky' to me - for lack of a better term (I can't seem to find a link for the news ones).

All that to say, sometimes I'm seeking to do something different w/the Cuttlebug. Enter two videos that can add some 'umph' to your projects.

The first one uses ink on the folder. I'm on the fence about this one. I like the look, but if all of the ink does not come off (even with cleaning), I'm afraid that I'll mess up my next project. Still like the technique and the videos really short.

The next technique is also cool, but a bit more advanced. You'll also need Nestabilities for this one.

Gotta Have This: :: Sew Easy

I haven't made many scrapbooking purchases lately. Something to do w/living abroad and not doing much crafting.

But I've been keeping up w/all things scrapbooking including gadgets, tools, new paper lines and die cutting machines. I'm mostly underwhelmed. Like the new embossing folders for the Cuttlebug from ProvoCraft. There are lots of new folders, but none that I just have to have.

Meanwhile, I was looking at a list of the Top Ten Items at Summer CHA 2010 from Nancy Nally and I saw this tool called the Sew Easy from We R Memory Keepers. Oh, so cute and most importantly - affordable. I do have a sewing machine, but sometimes, I just don't want to do all of that (I don't have mine set up, so I have to get it set up in order to use it). I like this Sew Easy - it pokes holes in your paper - because it is as the name describes (at least it seems) so easy.

Also, there are different types. I'm liking that scalloped one.

Has anyone seen this item in the stores yet?

Oh, how I like this idea. Problem is ... I don't think I have the skill or the patience to pull this off. Though I do have ideas. Lots of ideas ... I think it may be time to collaborate w/my artsy brother.

Papertrey July Blog Hop Challenge

It's been a while since I participated in a Papertrey Ink Blog Hop. This month's theme is to use office supplies.

What a challenge for me since I don't have any craft supplies w/me while I visit the States this summer. Bless my mom for sharing the wealth of goodies that she has.

I still kept it simple.

Here's the thing though: I recently purchased some of the Impressabilities from Spellbinders. The price was good and I thought 'why not?'. But after they arrived and I discovered that they weren't like the Cuttlebug embossing folders (the Impressabilities are more like metal stencils rather than plastic folders), I was worried that I would not be able to use the Impressabilities in the Cuttlebug.

After some searching, I found an Impressabilities tutorial on Facebook w/some details that were useful and even some info about inking the Impressabilities and using them to do something like letterpress. I just had to give that a try. And it worked quite nicely.

I am still getting myself situated in Cairo. Lovin every minute of it too. My guest bedroom will double as my craft room. It has a desk and I've request a bookshelf in there as well. Plenty of room for my printer and my sewing machine.

Until I get that up and running in the next few weeks, I'm going to share some info and tutorials that I've been coming across.

I saw the image of candle and thought "how'd they do that?" Beate Johns from Splitcoast Stampers produced this tutorial. I do like how it turns out and she says that you can still burn the candle even though it has a bit of tissue paper on it. It's a short vid. I hope that you like it as much as I did.

New Card Sets On the Way

But, some of my scrapbook stuff has just been sent to Cairo. So my mom does not know it, but I will be using some of her stuff. I'll just need a circle punch.

I think I am going to do my sentiments digitally since I need to get in the habit of doing more digital.

Anyway ... I just wanted to add some fresh content to this blog.

Change is Good

Hello everyone,

I have not posted here in a few weeks, so here's the update:

I'm moving to Cairo, Egypt in a few weeks to teach journalism at The American University in Cairo. Very exciting.

Unfortunately, the preparation for the move has taken me away from crafting. But that's just temporary. I am taking some craft items with me including my sewing machine. Oh and on a side note, I did find my old Cuttlebug - somehow I left it in Pittsburgh.

I also took a leave from my craft commitments so that I can transition to my new city and my new job. I'm still keeping an eye on the design team at Cuttlebug Challenge. And I always love the wealth of information that I get from Craft Critique. Everyone has been quite supportive. Thanks much.

Though I was disappointed to see that the Cuttlebug Challenge DT got some new Cuttlebug embossing folders; that came after my resignation. I hate when that happens. I put in a lot of time an effort w/that DT. I would have loved to have gotten that stars embossing folder. I'm not sour, just feel like I am missing out. Well, I am indeed missing out.

Cuttlebug Challenge :: 34

This week's Cuttlebug Challenge was quite simple for me: use Basic Grey. I love, love, love BG. I love the patterns and the colors and just the whole image of the company. Good stuff.

This week's sponsor is Mothers and Daughters Creations. I'm sure that there will be some fabulous prize.

This challenge was easy because I have lots and lots of BG papers. I prefer the 6x6 paper pads, but I also have a few single sheets as well as entire lines.

I did not use a great deal of BG on this card, but it's subtle and has a nice girly touch. I also got out my Nestabilties for this one. Oh, my new acrylic stamps from Autumn Leaves. The stamps are new for me, but I think they've been around for some time. I got them for $7 at Cord Camera. There are seven stamps in the set.

Cuttlebug Challenge :: 32

This week's Cuttlebug Challenge Be Inspired is to use butterflies and hearts. I like this one. Probably because I did not have to make any additional purchases and I do have a soft spot for the Cuttlebug butterfly die cut and embossing folders. I like the hearts too.

This card was easy enough, as you can see. But I did try one that is different. Though it was difficult to capture in my images. I took the script texture embossing folder and ran my patterned paper through the Cuttlebug, then I took the leafy branch embossing folder and I also ran the patterned paper through that one one top of the script texture. Interestingly enough, the embossing from the script did not totally flatten out. I started to ink the embossed section, but I really wanted to the focus to be on the butterflies.

Masking - Butterfly Card

I made this card for DIY Die Cutting week 2 on Two Peas in a Bucket. At first, I thought I would not be interested in this class, but there are always some nice tips and I love seeing their samples. This week's class was hosted by Kristina Werner. Love her work.

So I had some time to do this card. I used my Cuttlebug butterfly die cut. I don't use it enough, but it will show up again in the next few days.

I like the masking technique ... basically you are inking around the die cut. My problem is that I don't have a sponge, so I just used the small Color Box ink pad. I was unsure of how it would come out w/the butterfly since there are some fine details, but it works. I had intended to use the butterfly die cut on the card as well, but I always go back to my mantra ... "simple is best".

Cuttlebug Challenge :: 31 w/a video

This week's Cuttlebug Challenge is to use or make a 3D project. I sort of enjoyed this one. I've come to like making mini books. But I did not feel like I gave myself enough time to do this one in my meticulous way.

The Cuttlebug Design Team was given tag book courtesy of Create & Treasure.

I like mini books because of the embellishing. It's all of the little things. I've also come to appreciate letter stickers. Who doesn't have some of these laying around?

I mostly like the way the book came out, but give me some quality time and I am going to change out a few pages. I couldn't determine if I should focus on food that I like or quotes or just random things. I over-thought the whole process. Can't wait to see what you all came up with.

Cuttlebug Challenge :: 30

First of all, a big thanks for those whose participated in this past weekend's Cuttlebug Spa Weekend and the Blog Hop. Wow, lots of folks stopped by and it was so much fun.

This week's Cuttlebug Challenge was to make a wedding/anniversary project. The die cuts were provided by Creative Cuts and More.

I used the purse die cut. Quite the cutie. Though it nearly left me baffled as to what to do with it. I'm just lacking my creative mojo these days. With wedding, I thought simplicity, so I kept the white (I was tempted to do some inking, but no ...). I did not think that the heart embossing would work out, but I did test it out on scrap paper first. So the heart is on both the front and back of the purse. Then I wanted to stamp inside of the heart, but ... simplicity, right? I thought that the ribbon was a nice touch to make it not so plain.

The card was super simple. I love the split embossing (NOTE: I did not have time to locate tutorials on split embossing, but try searching on Splitcoast Stampers or Mel Stampz) . I almost put a ribbon on this, but I did not like my white ribbon selection.

I'm Kim, known to some as ohradiogirl, and my flower is the tulip.

This is going to be a great weekend! Lots of fun and lots of giveaways.

For me, relaxing does not come enough. But I find myself most comfortable when I am hanging out with friends: having a cup of coffee or breakfast and just enjoying good company.

I used to walk alot and that was relaxing. It was also quite fun since I walked w/a small walking group and we'd, walk, talk and laugh. Good times indeed.

The tulip has a soothing effect for me. It just brings me calm.

2 Sketches 4 You :: Take Good Care

I almost did not do this week's challenge because I don't have any large stars. I guess I could make one, huh?

But I was near Archiver's and that made it possible. I went to As, bought a piece of cardstock and used their Ellison dies. I was hopeful that I could match up the cardstock w/some patterned paper.

This ended up looking nice. At least I like it. I have been soooo critical of my cards lately, but this one has a bit of character.

This week's Be Inspired Cuttlebug Challenge theme is Home Sweet Home. As per usual, I made a card; at least one of them fits the theme since I ended up making two different cards. We're also using some very likable patterned paper from Marks Paper Company's Old Fashioned Courtship Collection. Oh, how I like the line. You'll see me using more of that in the coming weeks because I like it sooo much.

My craft stash is low and I did not even have a stamp to use for this project. But during a break at work, I went to Michaels and found this stamp in the $1 bin. Yay me.

Everything else is pretty basic. And the cards were easy to make.

2 Peas Stamp Camp :: Week 3 and 2 Sketches 4 You

I'm double dipping for this card. I like it.

2 Peas' Stamp Camp continues this week. The technique is background stamping. Very nice video and examples from Nicol Magouirk. The background stamping on this card came out more subtle that I would have liked. I guess I could have used black ink to get it to pop. I had wanted to heat emboss it, but I could not find my VersaMagic ink.

I also decided to combine Stamp Camp w/this week's 2 Sketches 4 You sketch. This week is Laura's sketch. Like always, the sketch allows for lots of improv.

I love my Tim Holtz stamp ... I am trying real hard not to purchase more of them. Just not really my turn to stimulate the economy. But that ribbon was a good get. It was something like 15 cents a yard at Cord Camera. I might go back and see if they still have some because I really like it.

And how about that journaling spot ... Jillibean Soup. I plan to get more of these. I know that the come in circles too. And maybe different colors.

2 Peas Stamp Camp :: Week 2

2Peas is hosting a Spring Stamp Camp this month. Last week it was stamping w/bleach. Cool technique, but not one that I could try.

This week Kristina Werner was the host and she worked w/alphabet stamps. She has a video where she made three different cards using alphabet stamps. Super simple and fun.

I thought easy enough, but then I realized that all of my letter stamps are in storage. Ugh. I almost bought a letter stamp set @ Pat Catan's when I was in Akron for Easter. So I really did set out to make a purchase for some inexpensive letter stamps. Jackpot @ Joann. I got this KI Memories acrylic alphabet stamp set for $2.99. It has all 26 letters plus some punctuation. I don't necessarily like the way the stamping looks w/the Tim Holtz distressed ink, but I do like my entry for the Stamp Camp.

Yes, there is and are prizes for participating in Stamp Camp. A 2Peas gift certificate.

Oh and the other cool thing about this card is the journaling block. Got that at Pizazz It!, a local scrapbooking store (lss) in Columbus. Bought it on the day I also went to the crazy expo. Here's the interesting thing: I was talking to the lss owner and she saw me looking at the nice selection of journaling blocks and she told me that the women who designed them had just done a class in the store. The company is Jillibean-Soup and the women lives in the Columbus area. Very cool. But too bad that I missed the class because they had some cute cards and projects.

Anyway, I like the journaling spots ... they were $3.49 and there was a variety of blocks in the package. I can't remember how many there were, but it was good for the price and I know a good deal when I see one.

This week's Cuttlebug Be Inspired Challenge involves numbers. I don't own the Cuttlebug numbers embossing folder. That would be nice to use.

But I just got this Tim Holtz stamp and I've been wanting to use it. So maybe you thought that the paper already had numbers on it, but no, that's me and my stamp. Nice. I like it. But that's the look I like: a bit messy and antique-like and fun.

So I used the Cuttlebug for the heart die cuts. I used one from Cuttlebug and one from Cuttle Kids. Also, there is embossing on one of the hearts and that is the Cuttlebug as well.

2 Sketches 4 You :: So Thoughtful

I'm trying to get in early on this week's 2 Sketches 4 You. This sketch is from Kazan. I love the simplicity. It allowed me to do something quick and simple.

I decided to make a mini-card. This card is 4x4. I like that, though I don't currently have any 4x4 envelopes. Guess I could make one to match, right?

There's not much more to say. That's what happens when 'simple' speaks for itself.

Oh, and my mom has her card done already this week too.

Cuttlebug Challenge :: Button Cover Tutorial

I've been playing around w/my button cover tutorial. I originally posted it on Craft Critique a few weeks ago.

I used another software program to make this one. A program called SoundSlides Plus. I like SoundSlides because I can control the music and the images from than you can with Animoto (the program that I used for the previous slideshow).

There's nothing new, just different music.

I haven't worked on a 2 Sketches 4 You sketch for weeks. Feels good to be back. I picked a good week too. The sketch was super simple and it used circles. Oh, how I like circles and using my EK Success circle punches.

Cuttlebug Challenge :: 25

This week's Cuttlebug Challenge is to use acetate along w/a sketch from SheetLoad.

I did not use acetate. But I did base my card on the sketch.

What I like most about this card is that I used somle new paper that I just got this weekend @ Michaels. I love K&Company and they have done a bang up job on this set of papers. The line is called Que Sera Sera. I have the specialty papers and the designer paper. And the image does not do it justice. I usually go for more muted papers and earth tones, but there's so much color here, but not too bold. I am not too crazy about the embellishments. But that's okay. Also, it was nice to get the paper packs using a 50% off coupon from Michaels (even though now they only allow you to use one coupon per day; they need some store signage on that one).

But as per my usual, this card is simple. I just don't feel as creative w/out a dedicated craft area. So the sketch was really helpful for me or you would have gotten another version of what I did last week or the week before only w/different paper and ribbon. Not really, but you get the picture. And one more thing, I did notice that my bow is upside down, I started to change it, but then I thought, nah ...

Craft Critique: Button Cover Tutorial

I do like fabric covered brads and buttons. They bring a classy element to the craft world. I've come to like making my own too. Especially since I don't have a lot to work with in my current craft stash. And when you purchase button cover kits, the only other thing you need is the fabric. And I must admit that I sometimes grab some fabric swatches from Joann.

Memories Scrapbooking Expo = A Bust

That title may seem harsh, but no ... that's gentle compared to how I really feel. It was nothing like the scrapbooking convention that I attended last year. Not to mention that I've been to others and this visit just did not stack up. I plan to share this very blog post w/them.

I recently attended the Memories Scrapbook Expo in Columbus, OH. I've been to it in the past, but I don't remember it being as crummy as it was this time around. My friend said it looked like stuff from someone's basement. Not good.

My experience was not pleasant:

getting to the parking lot was hectic; there was no signage to point you to the expo facility
parking was $5; I only had $6 ... paid for parking, but told to exit the lot; huh? After that slight detour, I eventually made it to the right building
they would only accept cash for admission (that was not listed on the promo material)
bank machine in the lobby had a $4 fee
paid $8 to get in (had a $2 off coupon)

All that to find less than desirable goods on the floor. There was very little 'new' stuff. Scrap Happy had a nice booth with some Quickutz stuff and a few Basic Grey lines. I did not find any good 'deals'. Not even on the old, basement-y stuff.

Archivers had a booth and they were handing out literature and calendars of their upcoming events. Are you kidding me? They can do better to drive traffic to the store; they have in the past. Cord Camera was not there, which was disappointing since at least once in the past they had a booth and had really good coupons to use throughout the expo weekend.

NOTE: someone just mentioned in a craft forum that Archivers was giving out coupons for free cardstock and % off coupons. Maybe they were all out by the time I got there; it was after 2 p.m. on the last day.

There were some demos and some booths had make and takes, but ... it was just a let down. They should at least have given me a door prize for looking and feeling so woeful, right?

Whah, whah, whah ... I'm just pouty because I should have called my friend before I went to the expo. She went to the expo the day before. I forgot to call her and she forgot to call me. Now I'm down nearly $20 for a big hassle and headache and not much to show for it.

So the one good thing to come out of it was I bought a Stampers Anonymous Tim Holtz Components Collection stamp. I got the Tim Holtz Components Collection Ledger. Love that collection. I think that is where my next paycheck will go.

Crazy thing is I ended up going to Hobby Lobby and Michaels and spent another $40. So who's stimulating the economy ... ?

Cuttlebug Challenge :: 24 - Food Theme

This week's Be Inspired Cuttlebug Challenge is a food theme.

The Cuttlebug Challenge Design Team were provided with these cute little digital files. They're from The Cutting Cafe (and available for purchase).

I was going to do a bit more w/the card. For example, I think that it would look better w/brown ink as opposed to the black. But my printer is out of ink and I had to use my roommates printer. I almost did not use the ribbon because I did not want to cover up the embossing on the strip. I like the bow; it adds an elegant touch.

I wish I had time to use more of the cupcake digital files. They are awfully cute. I will probably use more in the future.

My apology for the glare on the image below. I will capture another image and replace it later in the week.

Be Inspired Cuttlebug Challenge :: 23 Unusual Die Cuts

This weeks Cuttlebug Challenge is to use punches in an unusual way. I've done this in the past and I like the results.

My project for today is quite basic. I do like the simplicity that comes with using the Swiss Dots embossing folders.

I started to use a sketch for this challenge. I will next time. I think sketches get me to do something different. I do like the basic, but it's not unusual. Maybe next time. Oh, but I did get excited because I used some new Basic Grey paper. I picked it up at Cord Camera a few weeks ago. It's from the Porcelain line - Dresden. I only got one sheet, but I really like it.

I hosted a Cuttlebug Challenge on 2Peas for Winterfest 2009. It's an annual event hosted by the stamping board on 2Peas.

Here were the details of the challenge: you needed to stamp as well as use the Cuttlebug.

No Craft Space

I'm still sort of transitioning and I don't have a dedicated craft space. I should not let that stop me from crafting, but things are just imbalanced. Someone recently told me that my Feng Shui is off. That is so true.

It will still be a few more days before I can try to get back into my flow.

I did stop by a Cord Camera last Saturday. I only spent $10 but I got a couple of sheets of one of the new Basic Grey lines. And I got a Quickutz Revolution die and something else.

Here's the back story on today's creation: recently moved. Most of what I own is in storage. Packed two bags and a box of craft items to take w/me. Can't find the box. Don't remember what I did w/the Cuttlebug (CB) (see previous post). Used a 40% coupon and bought a new CB @ Michaels today. Happier.

Help - Lost Cuttlebug

It's a sad day and a sad time ... I recently moved/relocated ... whatever you want to call it. Point is, I had to pack up my humongous craft stash and now I don't know where things are. I created a pile of craft stash that I absolutely had to have w/me and that I could have immediate access to. I thought that's where the Cuttlebug is/was. It is not.

You do know how hard it is to misplace a Cuttlebug, right ... ? I mean, it's a bright green color and it's a bit heavy too. But I can tell you one thing, it is NOT in this house. What I am also afraid of is that I will find the machine, but then, where in the heck are the plates ... ? Jeez.

I am soooo tempted to grab a 40% off coupon and go buy another one. But that would be wasteful. My sister offered to mail me hers ... not so genius since I already mentioned how heavy it is.

My only hope is that someone in my neighborhood will invite me over to craft and that they will have all of the super cool craft tools including a Cuttlebug. Wow ... wake me from that dream. I'm sure my neighbors know nothing about the CB or its popularity in the craft world or my sadness for being w/out mine for that matter.

Oh woe is me ... how I am going to partipate in the Cuttlebug Challenge? How am I going to write my next article for Craft Critique, which includes critiquing the Cuttlebug?

What if I wrote Provo Craft - the makers of Cuttlebug - a note? Why not just send them this blog post? Silly me, silly, silly me ... well, if you live in Ohio and have a Cuttlebug - Holla.

Cuttlebug Challenge :: 16

This week's Cuttlebug Challenge is to create a card using distressing. You can sand it, ink it, tear the edges and/or use a distressing tool.

Well, I've had some fun w/distressing in the past. Not that this card was not fun because it was, but it was not elaborate in the area of distressing. It does not really live up to my 'distressed past'. (lol).

Actually, the stamped panel I had laying around - torn edges and all. I guess I had planned on using it and just had not gotten around to it. I thought that the yellow would add more color. It has a white core, so I did sand it though it is not so visible.

CHA Winter 2009

The Crafts & Hobby Association (CHA) 2009 Winter show is in progress. This is when many craft companies release their new lines and products and then the crafters get antsy trying to get their hands on it.

Cuttlebug Challenge :: 15

Loving this month's Cuttlebug Challenges. Just creativity out the wahzoo.

This week's challenge is to use a sketch and Trudi chose a PageMaps sketch. Lots and lots of circles and boy do I like circles.

I really do like my finished card. I like the colors - how about that patterned paper? It's Basic Grey's Figgy Pudding line. More of a deep red and not traditional red. I like that I stamped on the ribbon. I was uncertain as to how that would come out, but there's nothing like crossing your fingers and hoping for the best, right?

I also like those little epoxy's. They're from Making Memories. And of course I like the embossing. I used several different ones: 2 different full-sized ones (heart blocks and Swiss Dots) as well as 3 small ones from the Playful Circles set.

Just an fyi: I made some cards last year that I really fell in love with. Only I made them for a friend, so I had to let them go, but boy am I glad that I took pics. Check out the Queen of Hearts set.

Cuttlebug Challenge :: 14

This week's Cuttlebug Challenge is to make a card or whatever you wish using your favorite Cuttlebug embossing folder. Super simple for me. I love the Swiss Dots. Who doesn't. It just has that classic look. Running a close second though is the Textile Texture.

So here you will find me using them both. This is a design that I've used before and one that I scraplifted from Jodene over at Splitcoast Stampers.

I had wanted to stitch on both layers, but the sewing machine would not cooperate. You do not hear me when I say that I kept trying to eat up the layers. But crafty me was able to forge forward and create this nice little card.

I am so loving this stamp set from Hero Arts. Lots of different sentiments and they are acrylic. I am not so crazy about acrylic stamps these days because I like the Tim Holtz inks and some of the acrylic stamps don't stamp as nicely, in my opinion. But I digress.

A Bit of a Slow Down

I'm in a bit of a slow down. Right now the only thing I am doing is the Cuttlebug Challenge. However, maybe if there's a simple sketch at 2 Sketches 4 You or Card Positioning Systems (CPS), I might be able to churn something out.

I definitely have not fallen off. I also have not been shopping for any craft items. I'll look forward to using the huge stash that I already have.

Cuttlebug Challenge :: 13

It's another week and another Cuttlebug Challenge. This week's challenge is to create a simple white card. Something elegant and usually that's what the white brings - elegance.

I think that the Textile Texture embossing folder brings some elegance as well. That's the folder I chose to use. I think that the ribbon is a nice touch as well. Oh, and how about the partial embossing. I like that technique so that I can leave space for my sentiment.

Cuttlebug Challenge :: 12

This week's Cuttlebug Challenge is to use sanding on the embossing. Quite easy and a technique that looks very nice. I like the weathered look. I used Die Cuts With A View cardstock because it has a white core that would show once the sanding was complete.

I've combined this w/a sketch from the Hero Arts blog. I also like this card because it was rather easy and fun to put together. I managed to use some heat embossing, dry embossing, and sewing - and it was all pretty simple.

Papertrey Ink's monthly Blog Hop is tonight. Going on right now. This month's challenge is to recycle. Use something on a project that is recycling from the holiday.

So here is a little ornament that my mom received after participating in a local craft fair. It's a cute little trinket and she was kind enough to let me use it on this card. I did not bring a lot of items from my personal craft supply, but I like the result here. The Cuttlebug embossing adds something to an otherwise plain card.

Go Challenge Yourself

Happy Holidays! It's the holiday season and nearly the start of a new year. So why not challenge yourself? In the crafty way. I know having 48 hours to prepare for Christmas or Kwanzaa or Hanukkah is a bit of challenge, but I want to be more selfish and focus on a challenge for you.

So over the next few days when things might calm down, sit in your craft area and think outside of the box.

Here are some resources to get you going ... and remember that even though some sites might be on hiatus for the holiday season, check the archives for something that will be new for you.

It's has been a slow craft week for me.

But it was fun to coordinate this card. Actually, it should be much easier w/a sketch and the colors, but everything has to be just right.

I'm working w/the 2 Sketches 4 You card sketch and Kristina Werner's Color Inspiration.

I like the result. I used my newest craft purchase - or the most recent to arrive - the labels Nestabilities. Love those. For coordinating colors, I am having much success using my Die Cuts With A View (DCWV) Mat Stacks and Border Strips. They have lots of color variations so that helps out a lot. That's what I used w/the browns on this one.

I almost went overboard too by adding three felt flowers along the right side ... it was just too much and I again went w/the 'simple is best' approach. Oh, and I had wanted to do another 'Thank You' card, but I like this sentiment and I have not used it in a while.

What I've Got Bookmarked

I have tons of bookmarks. I use Mozilla as my Internet browser and I like that it allows me to tag my bookmarks. That is helpful since I have a craft communities folder as well as a craft blogs folder along w/a craft inspiration folder. But once I bookmark the site, I could tag it w/'scrapbooking' and I could locate something in one folder that is not in another folder. Does that make sense. We all have our organizing nuances, don't we.

Point is, if I thought that my life was a bit crazy, it's about to get crazier. More hectic. It's inevitable. I can already feel the slow down, hence, that's why I'm writing this post and not crafting and/or writing this post and not posting about a card that I made.

But back to the bookmarks. Although I have not been crafting, I have been lurking around the web and checking out these places. Most of them are well known.

Wow, the week almost went by w/o me doing much card making. Just taking it slow is all. I did get the Cuttlebug Challenge done (see yesterday's post).

I do like the inspiration for the Color Inspiration - skeins of yarn. I love when I see the DMC floss all lined up and color coordinated. The 2 Sketches 4 You sketch is a no-frills sketch. Love that.

I don't have much more to say about this card. It's just simple and fresh. I started to distress the edges and do some sewing, but sometimes less is more.

Cuttlebug Challenge :: 9

This week's challenge:

create a Christmas/Holiday themed project, something other than a card

Now card making is my biz, so yes, another challenge-challenge for this girl. But I'm going sneaky on them this week and making tags! That's right TAGS, lots of tags. Also, great embellishments for ... you guessed it - cards!

I used my Cuttlebug in so many ways here.

So much fun too. I had to color coordinate and add all sorts of details like the bling, heat embossing, ribbon, twine, eyelets, buttons, etc.

I even pulled out my Crop-A-Dile to cut holes through the chipboard and then add eyelets. I had put away most of my holiday stuff and this time around I discovered several items that I had not even used this season. Like the snowflake embellishment and the the star button. Ha.

Oh and my mom gave me the idea for the tags. I had cut her out some of the holiday themed Cuttlebug stuff and she's using her newly created tags on her cookies for cookie exchange.

Don't forget that you can write the 'to' and 'from' information on the back of the tag.

Let's Make Envelopes!

Holiday Wishes :: A Card for Multiple Challenges

This card fits the bill for three (3) challenges. You might be like "wow". But my lesson is learned here. From here on out, I will primarily do just one (1) or two (2) challenges at a time. Three sort of seems like a jack-of-all-trades, master of none. I think my card just looks so-so and that if I would have focus on two challenges I would have had a better result. And I actually wanted to add a fourth element: using the 'spotlight' stamp technique for 2Peas' final week of Stamp Camp.

The three (3) challenges being attempted:

Card Positioning Systems (CPS) card sketch #93
Hero Arts Make-It-In-Minutes Card Challenge

The biggest challenge was using the Color Inspiration colors: chocolate chip, pumpkin pie, taken w/teal, certainly celery and whisper white. The colors look good in the image, but not so easy to duplicate on a small canvas like a card.

I do like this week's CPS card sketch. Nice that I had the small embossing folders from Cuttlebug to add the snowflake. I do like the rhinestone at the snowflakes center. Nice touch. I like using sketches ... just one less thing to think about while card making.

And finally for the Hero Arts Challenge ... make a quick card. This was sort of quick in that I had a sketch and the colors and just had to coordinate, hence, the challenge.

I like the dry embossing on the horizontal strip. It's from the Cuttlebug heart die and embossing folders set. I just embossed half of the strip and then embossed the other half.

Cuttlebug Challenge :: 8

Time for another Cuttlebug Challenge and this one was indeed a challenge. I have been working on it for a couple of weeks. I must say that after this challenge, I will leave the making of embossing folders to the makers of the Cuttlebug. And that was the challenge: to make your own embossing folder.

I did, however, finally come up w/something that I could use on a project.

I cut out some hearts using a die from CuttleKids. I then layered them inside a piece of folded plastic. I think it was the plastic from the front cover package of one of the Cuttlebug embossing folders (before they began to use a picture on the front). Then I carefully laid the cardstock on top of the row of hearts and just as carefully laid the plastic folder in my sandwich for embossing ('A' plate, 'B' plate, plastic folder and 'B' plate). I ran the sandwich through the CB and then rolled it back.

I am more proud of my felt flower than the embossing. I don't have many colors of felt, but my brown and cream are two of my favs. I originally made this flower to use for last month's Papertrey Ink. Blog Hop, but I did not use it. It ended up being a good fit for this card though.

Overall, this was a pretty simple card to make. And it's got a cute thing goin on ...

I've Been Tagged

I've been tagged. I must admit that I have been tagged before and I just forgot about it. But this time, I'm going to go along, but just this one time. The Internet is already a time stealer. Good thing is, I won't tag anyone ... this madness has to stop somewhere, right?

Hi :: 2 Sketches 4 You and 2Peas Stamp Camp

Wow, another week and back to the wonderful world of cardmaking.

Starting off the week w/this week's 2 Sketches 4 You card sketch. This one courtesy of Laura. I love these sketches. It did not take me to coordinate this one. Just used some of the basics. I did grab some stamps that I rarely use from See-D's. And I used a border punch from Martha Stewart. I do like that punch. It is so easy to line up and use as opposed to the Fiskars punches which take a bit more of an effort to punch through.

Also, over @ Two Peas in a Bucket, Stamp Camp continues. Last week it was a "Kissing" technique. I've been following the camp, but I've yet to post a project. So here it is. The kissing is faint on the letters, but you can see the little swirls. Well that is from another stamp. I am not one to go into detail about this technique - that is why there is Stamp Camp. Go and check out the kissing technique video tutorial by Kristina Werner.

I made this card using some scraps. However, the labels are a new purchase. They are from Martha Stewart. They are supposed to be gift tags, but I just love the labels w/that hint of gold trim. So I added the stamping and heat embossed w/gold embossing powder. I'll probably do more of the labels like this. The ribbon adds another level of simplicity, but classic.

So far it's been a nice Thanksgiving Week. Hanging w/the fam in my hometown. We had crazy snow on Tuesday, but it has calmed down since then.

And today after an early morning, two-hour workout, then a nap and then some good eats, I managed to kick out this little card. I'm excited about it since when I packed my craft bag I forgot my adhesive tape, my craft scissors, some ribbon, ink for stamping and my paper cutter. Those are some of the essentials.

Thank goodness my mom was in the mood to share some of her goodies thus enabling me to make this card for two of my fav weekly challenges: Kristina Werner's Color Inspiration and Laura and Kazan's 2 Sketches 4 You.

It's that time again. Time for Papertrey Ink's monthly Blog Hop. This month's challenge is to create a floral embellishment.

I was really looking forward to this one. Mostly due to my recent fascination w/fabric and fabric brads in particular. And boy do fabric brads look nice w/felt and fabric flowers.

I like the flower for this one. It was really easy to make. The fabric used to make the first layer is from Joann. It's actually just a swatch from the upholstery department. I matched up the fabric w/the fabric brad. The fabric brad is from K&Co. Love those. I think they have 9 for $3.99 - not too bad.

Cards as Gifts

My friend recently asked me to make her several sets of cards so that she could give the away as holiday gifts. I am soooo honored.

I've been making cards for my friends for the past few years and she has always been on that list. Oh, and I made her some monogram cards too.

Anyway, here is one set. I really like this one. I'll get around to showing the others too, but I took pics of this set and I have not taken pics of the other sets yet.

I like the touch of embossing and stitching.

I'm hoping to get to make cards for my friends again this holiday season, but I'm in transition and that is an ambitious goal. Oh, well, won't it be nice when they get a package in the mail in, say, February ... ?

What's Up :: cps 91

Another day and another really fun card. I created this one for this week's Card Positioning Systems (cps) sketch. I really like the simplicity of this sketch.

For me the focal point is the stamping. I like that stamp too; very cool sentiment. Picked it up this past weekend. Actually, my mom got it for me. There was only one in the $1 bin. It's one of the Studio G ones. I like when the stamps are more solid and the heat embossing melts together. And the olive embossing powder is nice too. It's from Close to my Heart.

Everything else is kind of basic ... except for the fabric. Just a piece of some fabric that I picked up for $1.49 from Joann.

Oh, and I'm trying to get things back to normal computer wise. Though it's not normal yet. I did install Picasa on the laptop that my friend gave to me. So I am getting more and more comfortable w/this one. As opposed to going back to my laptop. Anyway, Picasa allows me to easily add my name and blog address to the pics.

The design team over @ Card-A-Licious have some awesome work to check out. I like lots of layers and they have that. Sometimes I go simple and they have that too.

For this card, I went w/the layered look. I have been seeing some cards w/the bow and the flower on top and I've been meaning to try that. Well, here it is. I actually tied a very nice bow and almost did not want to cover it up. I like the double-faced ribbon too.

Then there is that flower. It's a nice little stack, right? I do like that new flower die from Sizzix. It's one of the Hello Kitty ones. I almost overlooked that one and the price is scary too - $19.99. Of course, I had a coupon.

I am officially in love w/K&Co. patterned papers. The paper here is from the news stack/pack that I purchased called "Life's Journey". Love that. And the mini journaling page is from Making Memories.

I've gone and created a 'wowser'. Well, actually I was uncertain as to how this one would turn out and - to me - it has a wow factor. I've been seeing some cards that have more of a white card base. I usually use olive or other colored cardstock as a base. I also like the white card base w/a panel of white on top and in this case using the Cuttlebug Swiss Dots embossing adds such a nice touch.

I used Kristina Werner's Color Inspiration Challenge. As you can see, the image that she uses is rustic and seasonal, but I did not tap into that feeling. I do like the mix of pumpkin and cocoa, but even the eggplant and the saffron bring a nice warm touch. And those are colors, but could easily be a meal. :-)

Now, for the Hero Arts Challenge:

"This week I challenge you to create a thank you card that uses at least one stamped scrap and one Hero Arts stamp."

I think I followed the instructions. I just purchased the Thank You stamp in the upper left corner. It's in a set of acrylic stamps - Heartfelt Messages. I am learning that I like rubber stamps better in many cases. I like the Tim Holtz inks and they do not work well w/the acrylic stamps. IMO. I've tried to use an eraser to take off the residue and create better absorbency, but no luck.

Lots of fun to be had w/these weekly challenges.

You're the Best :: 2 Sketches 4 You

For me to get in on 2 Sketches 4 You's weekly card sketch this early in the week is awesome. It is, indeed, the start of a wonderful week.

I had also intended to try emboss resist on the sentiment, but I just decided to leave it alone. This is week 4 of Stamp Camp over @ Two Peas. After I watched the resist video tutorial of the technique, I just have to try it out.

But I am excited about fabric brads. I found lots over the weekend when I unexpectedly landed in Hobby Lobby, Pizazz It (Columbus, OH), Michaels, Joann and Archivers.

Also, I really like making my own felt flowers. During my unplanned craft stops, I picked up a Sizzix flower die. I like the Sizzix and Cuttlebug dies for cutting cleanly through the felt and fabric. Sometimes I can cut through a thin piece of fabric w/a Quickutz die in the Cuttlebug - I just add a shim and run it back and forth a few times.

Cuttlebug Challenge :: 7

Yea, time for another Cuttlebug Challenge. It's week 7, in case you are counting and this is the first challenge for the month of November. You can participate in this challenge until Saturday.

I'm liking this card. I originally created it as a submission for the 2 Sketches 4 You design team. Just a cutie. And quite simple too. I used K&Company patterned papers which coordinate so well together. I've had that Quickutz dress die from some time. I've used it on occasion and I do like it. It surely does add that 'girlie' touch. Oh, and the 'tres chic' stamp is from See-D's; it's a set I have called "Ooh la la". There is dry embossing on the top half too; a bit had to see though.

Well, if you ask me how excited I am about this card and I will tell you "uber excited"! And let me tell you why. I absolutely love the flower and the mini folder.

First of all, I am using Krista Werner's Color Inspiration Challenge. This week's colors were Old Olive, Certainly Celery, Sahara Sand and Whisper White. I love, love, love olive. So it was easy for me to coordinate for this challenge. The problem for me is the picture. I may replace it if I can produce an image that showcases the colors more vibrantly.

But my new favorite thing is fabric buttons. I went to a handmade craft fair this past weekend and lots of vendors had them. Then I went to etsy and saw even more wonderful fabric buttons. Check out these from Fabric Farrago.

So I mentioned the fabric buttons to my mom who immediately said that Joanns has the buttons covers used to make your own fabric buttons. Guess who made a trip to Joanns? That would be me. I got the buttons covers along w/a Sizzix Hello Kitty die - the outer layer of the flower. You will more than likely see more of these flowers on more and more of my cards. I like choosing my own fabric and even stamping on the fabric and making my own buttons. Now I just need to find a place that sells the buttons covers by the bag full. Watch out.

Oh, and I got the idea to use the Quickutz mini folder from Card-A-Licious; that's their challenge this week.

Friendship :: 2 Sketches 4 You

Okay, so I am back to producing cards for single challenges, at least this week. The other day I managed to create one card using three different challenges.

For today's post, I'm focused on this week's 2 Sketches 4 You card sketch. It was nicely produced by Kazan. I like it, but I decided to go simple for this one. And that means so sewing, no torn or distressed edges, etc.

I did manage to use some plastic. Plastic from a milk jug. I used that to make the flower. Then I ran it through the Cuttlebug's Swiss Dots folder. And finally, I added some patterned paper to the back of it. But I think it's that fat button that really sets it off.

My bow making is still a work in progress. I keep trying. I am tying like I tie my shoes and I do believe that is the problem. This bow looks okay. I'm just afraid that I will unravel. Oh, and I do like the look of the off-white heat embossing on the patterned paper.

I could go on ... this is such a wonderful product, oh, and the price. Very reasonable especially if you catch them on sale like I do. I usually buy a ton of them when Hobby Lobby has them at 50% off.

Card Making with a Purpose

I made this card as a submission for the 2 Sketches 4 You Design Team. Unfortunately I did not make the cut - not this time. I'll try again in the Spring. Congrats to the new DT; their work looks awesome.

But do I love this card? Heck yeah! It has a lot going for it: colors, texture and just plain old fun.

You can vaguely see that I stamped on the Thickers. I used a Tim Holtz's Tattered Rose which is a light shade of pink. I stamped w/a stamp w/writing on it. I do like that look. Additionally, I used my Cuttlebug along w/a Cuttlebug die to cut through the felt for the flower. I like the mix of patterns on top of the Bazzill Bling. I think this one really came together.

Hey folks ... just thought I'd share information about Jessica Sprague's upcoming course. It's a FREEBIE! Love that.

It's called Stories in Hand. Seems like it will be very cool. The primary item that you need is a 6x6 naked binder. The class begins on Sunday, November 9, 2008 so you don't have much time to get the supplies and get ready to have fun.

Speaking of fun, it looks to be another fun weekend over on Two Peas in a Bucket. Not only is Stamp Camp in its second week, but Home for the Holidays kicks off tomorrow; that's right on Thursday. Fighting w/my Card

Yes, it's true: you can have a fight w/your card. At least that was the case for me last weekend. After a crazy week, I decided to get going on a few projects. One being this week's Cuttlebug Challenge card.

I had memorized the sketch and figured out something relatively simple to do. But it looked to simple and I decided to add some sewing around the edges to add some dimension. And that is when the problem began.

I was using a thin thread and it kept snapping/breaking. I adjusted the tension, still snapping/breaking. I am not such a fan of threading the machine, so I was a bit perturbed at this point. Then I decide to use the thicker thread, which I know gets jammed in the machine, but I gave it a go anyway. Of course it jams every inch and it jams in a way that was difficult to unjam especially w/out ripping the paper. Crazy. But I was determined and finally completed the sewing portion. Whew.

So, it looks so nice and neat on the front, but the backside is a monstrosity. Just a gigantic mess. But as a crafter this is just another challenge waiting to take place. My plan now is to take the card front and place it onto another card front and no one will ever know about the crazy backside - except for you all! :-)

3 Challenges in 1

I had to combine challenges which is not unusual but in this case I have three going on. But here's my reason why - still w/o my laptop. It is a sad, sad thing. I feel sooooo disconnected from my virtual world because I am disconnected. I'll be up in full swing soon, very soon.

You'd think I would have more time to craft, but it has been a crazily weird week and I don't know what I've done w/my time - other than make this card.

And this card is not my proudest moment. You see this week's Color Inspiration Challenge was a doosy! The colors were eggplant, teal, blue, pumpkin and white. Yes, challenging indeed. I did not think I even owned any paper in that color scheme. But in the old days, I just bought anything (I'm sure you did too). So, yes, I did have paper and embellishments in those colors.

The next challenge is for this week's 2 Sketches 4 You sketch. Which I did not follow whole heartedly - it was the colors that held me back. I really wanted to work w/some patterned papers that included all of the colors or at least I could coordinate patterns; whatever.

Lastly, I tried to get in on Card-A-Licious. Alas, we were supposed to make a 'give thanks' card a la Thanksgiving and I only got in the 'Thanks". I had planned to stamp out 'give' and cut the letters out individually, but I like the card in its plain way w/the addition of the letters.

Cuttlebug Challenge :: 6

I'm hoping to get some of my other projects posted, but without my laptop, I'm relegated to the library with limited time. Love the library, just working this thing out.

So this week's Cuttlebug Challenge is to use a sketch from ScrapFreak.com. I did like the sketch and the resulting card too.

I decided to try out Tim Holtz's alcohol inks. I thought that the color would match up better and not be so yellow-y. But I will work that out next time. I used a plastic milk jug for the flower. I used the alcohol ink on the plastic first, then I cut it out using the Sizzix die cut, then I ran it though the Swiss Dots embossing folder. Warning though: let ink on that baby dry for a bit. It left a faint trace of ink on the embossing folder. Not a big deal, but if it dries, it more than likely will not come off. I am so anal about my embossing folders, but I've seen some folks do crazy things w/them.

Oh and for the top portion of the card, I almost left it uncolored, but decided to run my brayer over the ink pad and ran the brayer over the card a few time. Cool.

Cuttlebug Challenge :: 5

This week's Cuttlebug Challenge is active and has been since Wednesday. Get on over and play. The challenge this week is to emboss on a metallic finish.

Oh, challenge me. I am not crazy about metallic finish. Just not my style. I've seen people work wonders with it though. The best I could do was pull out my Bazzill Bling. I do like the bling especially for wedding cards, but generally speaking, I just don't use it a lot. If you gave me a stack of it, I'd keep a couple of sheets and give it away to others.

So I did a little holiday card w/o the holiday colors. That I do like. Breaking away from the traditional. I do really like the traditional. But this card is just as fun in a different color scheme.

Oh, and I'm getting better at listing which Cuttlebug embossing folders I've used.

The life of a card maker - or not ...

Okay, so my card making and virtual life have come to a stand still. Timing. I've started some outside endeavors (read: part-time job), and it aims to take over my life.

If that was not enough, my laptop has crashed; well, the Windows operating system has. My daughter has the reinstall disk, but guess what, she can't find it. Whatever. Of course the warranty has expired and I don't quite have the computer know how to fix it especially w/o the disk. Oh, woe is me.

So I bring you this little note courtesy of the public library. Thanks goodness. I could actually post some cards, if I had some spare time to make some. Oh, well.

I did not even get a chance to complete this week's Cuttlebug Challenge card. And there is a Stamping Camp taking place on 2peas. Actually, I thought that I could work the two together. My loss.

I've had this card done for a few days now. I did a scrap lift from the September issue of CARDS Magazine, which I am in.

It's a card from Melissa Phillips also known as MeliBean (p. 42). Her card is pretty and uses some pastels and florals. Very nice. I've been following her gallery on 2Peas for sometime now.

So when I decided to scraplift, I knew that I wanted to use the polka dot paper, though I can't recall who makes it.

I'm just a bit behind in getting this done and posting. So much so that this week's winner has already been posted for the Color Inspiration. But it's not always about winning, now is it? Besides this card fulfills not one, but two challenges. Actually, the card is also based on this week's Card Positioning Systems sketch.

The Color Inspiration Challenge is very cool. Helps me to diversify my color palette. Otherwise, I'd only use olive green and brown. This week's color was red or pink as the main color.

I'm sort of feeling this card. I used up some scraps. I also made it open face. I like my interpretation of the cps sketch because I did not follow the sketch inch for inch.

The World's Best Looking Greeting Card

Okay ... so I was a bit over the top w/the title post, but a girl can dream right? And in my world it's all about the dreams.

This card is based on a 2 Sketches 4 You sketch. This week it was Laura at the helm. Sometimes I scratch my head w/sketches, but not this time. I have way too many scraps in my work area so I just started pulling some and tried to coordinate. Then I lost the desire to coordinate, but somehow it still works here.

I purchased some lace a few weeks ago because I've been seeing it on more and more projects and I thought today'd be a good day to try it out.

I have a lot going on here. That's why I mentioned it as "The World's Best Looking Greeting Card". Here are the elements from the designer's perspective - that would be me:

Used the Cuttlebug and inked the dry embossing
Used the sewing machine to add more texture
Stamped on the patterned paper for added effect
Used a journaling stamp, but did not journal - ah, ha ...
Created the flower using felt, muslim, stamp and button - love that
Used felt and die cuts to cut out heart and the letter 'u' - that was tricky since my felt is flimsy and the heart and letter did not cut cleanly; had to use scissors
How about that ribbon? It's got the wire in it so I could fluff it up (still working on my bow making skills)
And finally, the bling - a heart bling - it's all about the bling!

This card is truly one of my favs and it did not take forever to make. Oh, I'm also submitting this to Card-A-Licious. And yes, it is as yummy as it sounds. The challenge was to use a journaling spot.

Cuttlebug Challenge :: week 3

Another week and another challenge over at the Cuttlebug Challenge blog. This week's challenge almost crippled me. Sometimes I just don't want to think outside of the box.

The challenge was to make something other than a card or layout. I had to make a list of things I might be interest in making: magnets, book marks, ATCs ... yeah, it was a short list for me. But then I sort of got an idea that I had wanted to try out last year, but never got around to it. I had to high tail it to Michaels and find the star that I ended up altering. I know that Pat Catans has paper ones, but Pat Catans ain't so close to where I live. The one here is metal.

This project was not simple in the least. I ended up creating a parallelogram template to use for each point on the star. Who wants to do alegbra at my age? Took me a couple of tries to get it near right. But wah-lah! I like the way it looks, though I am going to go back and use some Modge Podge on it because the paper is not staying on.

Oh, and love that paper, right? Basic Grey does not disappoint. I used paper from a couple of different lines. I think it's Figgy Pudding and Dasher or Blitzen.

It did not seem to take me long to make this card. I started on it last night. Not quite what I envisioned, but I do like it. Hard not like the K&Co papers. I like the pink because the card is not so matchy-matchy.

It's the stamping that I am a bit iffy about. I do love that Hero Arts 'happy' stamp. But I did not do well stamping on the edges/creases. I should know better. I intended to go off the edges, but, well ... I wanted grungy and I got what I got, right? Oh, well.

Oh, and of course I would have a sewing glitch. Yeah, it got a little nasty. I was trying to adjust the tension because I was using craft threat, but the paper still got a bit stuck in the machine. I tried to recover. I had sewn about an inch or more; I pulled out those stitches, re-threaded the machine using regular thread instead of the craft thread and sewed over the original area. Then I covered it up w/that cute little butterfly - embellishments doing what they do ... embellish! Love that.

Oh, for the 2 Sketches 4 You sketch, I turned this sketch counterclockwise - for no particular reason.

Cuttlebug Challenge :: week 2

This week's Cuttlebug Challenge is to create a card or project w/a Fall or Halloween theme. Well, this is certainly not my strong suit. I just don't get into either one. I don't even know if I will be handing out candy this year in my neighborhood (mostly because it would take a second job to purchase enough candy for all the revelers in my hood).

Anyway, I did manage to eek out a little something; something that I like too. I like that ink. It's VersaMagic's Pumpkin. How appropriate, right? Oh and I pulled out my See-D's stamps too to stamp out 'Fall'. I like those, but I just had not used them yet.

I haven't been over the sketch this in a bit, so I popped over to see what this week's sketch looked like. Nice enough for me. I was able to pull this card together in no time.

I'm doubling up on this card because I also checked out Kristina Werner's Color Inspiration Challenge. This was kinda cool too. There are four colors, but I only managed to get in three of the four.

Here's the thing about this card, the flowers are so likable. For the sheer flower, I used a milk jug. That's right, I rinsed it out and let it dry, and then I cut out the flat panels. I took my Sizzix flower die and ran it through my Cuttlebug and wah lah! I wanted to add some alcohol inks, but I was not in the mood to experiment and/or make a mess.

I'm also liking that 'happy birthday' epoxy. It's from Making Memories. Finally, the other flower gets some cool points too. Mainly because of the metal embellishment in the center. It's from K&Co. Just adds a nice touch.

It's funny, most of my cards from the 2 Sketches 4 You sketches are Thanks and Thank You cards. That is so unintentional, yet interesting and funny to me.

What is also funny, how my card turned out based on the sketch. It does not totally match up, but these things are up for interpretation, right? I thought that the vertical pattern on the paper was complimentary to the vertical sections in the sketch. As for the two circles @ the bottom of the sketch, I wanted to add another flower, but the one is plenty.

Speaking of the flower, I used a Sizzix die and cut it from Fun Foam. Love that bling too. It's from Joann/CK. The sentiment is a $1 stamp from Micheals. I was going to stamp in like a pink, but that Tim Holtz Weathered Wood nearly matches the flourish underneath it; I love it when these things work out.

What almost did not work out was the sewing. I used some craft thread in the sewing machine, but I did not adjust the tension, so the first panel that I made got all ripped up. Note to self: do the sewing first and the stamping last when possible.

Holiday Card :: cps 85

I finally got around to making some cards this week. I was really into it last night and out of the blue the power went out - not all of it mind you, but just enough that I could not do the sewing - and I just had to have some sewing.

When things finally got back to normal this afternoon, I was still in the mood to sew, heck, I even took the time to change the color of the thread - twice!

I do like the results. I put a lot of thought into this card using this weeks Card Positioning Systems (cps) sketch. I love the Papertrey Ink papers, but I only have the swatches so this was a good sketch to put them to use. Also, I wanted to have the feel of using the ribbon like you would if you were wrapping a gift. Finally, that little christmas tree is adorable and it says "We wish you a Merry Christmas, we wish you a Merry Christmas, we wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!" How cool is that? I thought cutting it out and adding foam tape would add a bit of punch. One more thing, I was going to use red ribbon w/a pattern, but I went for the monochromatic look. Love that.

Stamptoberfest @ 2Peas

Stamptoberfest (SOF) has begun over @ 2Peas. It's a week long stamping events w/lots and lots of challenges and lots of goodies to go along w/that. Just fun, fun, fun and at no cost.

I'm hosting one of the many challenges. It's the SOF Cuttlebug Challenge (incidentally, I had this planned prior to knowing about Trudi's blog Cuttlebug Challenge). As a matter of fact, I hosted a Cuttlebug Challenge for Worldwide Stamping Week (WSW) on 2Peas earlier this year in June.

Anyway, I have a like RAK (random act of kindess) for participants. I have some Studio G Holiday stamps as well as a stamp set from Martha Stewart. I may even throw in some other goodies. I'll finalize that on Monday or Tuesday and post a picture.

Oh, so what is the challenge? Just make a card or project using the Cuttlebug along w/stamping. Super simple, right? The deadline is Saturday, October 11, 2008. For all the details, check out my 2Peas blog.

Just a quick little post to provide some inspiration.

I've seen lots and lots of monthly scrapbooking kits on the web. Although some look really good in terms of content, I have not been tempted enough to make a purchase. That is until today.

Somehow I came across the Label Tulip webbie. Oh, what wonderful kits they have. They look so yummy. I was checking out their design team too - Tulip Girls - and I discovered that I link to one of them as a source of inspiration. That would be Sasha Farina of Collection of Memories. Love her work.

So although I did not sign up for order kits, I will be on the look out to see how they look. But I'm feeling like I might end up w/one in the next few months. I usually am uninterested because I think that there is too much stuff that I will not use. But that is the point too - to get you out of your comfort zone and doing something different.

And not just any challenge, but a Cuttlebug Challenge? Well, Trudi is on it. She's crazy about the Cuttlebug and she realizes that she is not alone.

She recently put out a call for a design team and I responded. Lucky me, I'm one of eight, not including Trudi, who's on the Cuttlebug Challenge Design Team.

We'll be using the Cuttlebug in all sorts of ways. I typically just make cards, but this could get me out of my comfort zone every now and then.

Challenges will be posted weekly on Wednesday's.

This is good stuff. I am trying to contain my excitement, but why ...? Let the fun run wild, right?

September Blog Hop

I'm way too excited about this month's Papertrey Ink Blog Hop. I have missed the last two. One because I was out of town and the other because I had absolutely no creative juice for what to do w/a cd case other than its initial use. Shame on me, eh? But I'm back, yes indeed!

So, here I am w/an actual idea and participation. My idea is not unique, as a matter of fact, I saw it on the Hero Arts Blog. I just love the idea of handmade book marks. I do a lot of reading, but you would not believe what I use as book marks: receipts, paper scraps, post it notes, torn pieces of newspapers, old bills or junk mail ... I could go on. How nice, to actually have a book mark for the purpose of marking my place in a book? So I've decided to give these to my reading group as an early holiday gift. There are only seven of us, so it's not a lofty project and of course, one for me as well.

The tree and the sentiment on the book mark are both $1 stamps from Michaels. For the stamped background, I used three different $1 stamps from Michaels that all say "Happy Holidays". Love that VersaMark look. And my seldom used colored pencils came in handy here.

As for the card, well, I've had that stamp- the trees - for some time. One of those wonderful $1 stamps from Michaels too. It looked so cute, like they usually do, but I've never used it. I got out my colored pencils here as well. Love that. I think I've used the Holiday Cheer stamp before. Maybe not. It's from Anna Griffin. Oh, and do you see the hint of Papertrey Ink Holiday Vintage paper? Yep, thanks Nichole for the free sample.
